RADIO TELEPHONY RESTRICTED (AERO)

The R. T. R. (A) is a professional course of an international standard as per the general guidelines given under international radio regulations applicable to the Aeronautics Mobile Services. Those who secure the requisite standard of performance are granted the licence. Such licence holders are able to seek job in companies / organizations engaged in the field of civil aviation. Such person is known as “Aeronautical Radio Communication Officer”

In India this licence is issued by the WPC wing of the Department of Telecommunication Govt. of India. The course is designed as per the syllabus prescribed under section no. 8 part B of Annex-2 of ‘Indian Wireless Telegraph Commercial Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency’ and licence to operate wireless telegraphy rules 1954 of M O C Govt. of India.

RTR (A) EXAM PLAN

This exam consists of following two parts.

Part 1  :    Practical test in Regulations and Procedures
                (Transmission)

Part 2  :   Oral Exam (VIVA) in

A) Regulation and Procedure
B) Radio principles and practice

COURSE CONTENTS:-

Section A – Regulation and Procedure:

General and aeronautical ‘Q’ code signals and other abbreviations as contained in Annex-10 (vol. 1 & 2) of International Civil Aviation Organization.
General Radio Telephone communication procedure and radio telephone communication procedure for distress & urgency and spellings used in telephony for words and figures. Licence requirements of radio apparatus used in aircraft.

Minimum requirement of radio Equipment to be carried on aircraft as prescribed in Annex-6 of the International Civil Aviation Organization and navigation facilities available together with principal frequencies to be used for communication and navigation within India.
Meteorological codes, pre-flight briefing services and the usages.

Knowledge of Notices To Airman issued by the Civil Aviation Authority in India as applicable to the aeronautical mobile and air traffic control services.

SECTION B- Radio Principles and Practice:

Candidates will be required to have knowledge of electrical units such as volt. Ampere, ohm and watt, wave length, frequency and their relationship. Knowledge of radio frequency propagation, day and night frequencies, skip distance, fading ground shadow and its effect on communication, choice of frequencies to attain maximum efficiency in handling air-ground HF communications.

General knowledge of system employed for air ground communication including SELCAL operation, inter communication and announcing system of aircraft, elementary knowledge of radio navigation aids, operation of microphones and headphones, squelch, A. V. C volume control, tuning of transmitter, simplex and duplex operation, advantages and disadvantages of H. F. Radiotelephony communication and limitations of range due to frequency interference etc.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Students completing this course and passing examination and acquiring R T R (A) Licence issued by the Wireless Planning and Co-ordination Wing Ministry of Communication Govt. of India can get jobs in the various Indian as well as foreign airlines, airport authorities, aviation companies oilrigs etc. as Radio Communication Officers.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

The course conducted by A I I A is concerned with R T R (A) exam of WPC Wing Ministry of Communications, Govt. of India which is recognized by the International Telecommunication Union, Geneva. The syllabus of the course is as per the recommendations of Consultative Committee of the International Telegraphy and Telephony (CCTR) and Consultative Committee of International Radio (CCIR).
